Today,
in hotel Istatov, Dojran started two day workshop on
the subject of Development of national ecological
network in RM (MAK – NEN). This is a beginning of a
project implemented by MES (Macedonian Ecological
Society), ECNC (European Center for Nature
Conservation) supported by the Ministry of
Environment and Spatial Planning) MESP of RM.
The
workshop was open by Mr. Filip Ivanov (MESP), Dr.
Lawrence Jones Walters (ECNC) and Professor D-r.Ljupco
Meloski
(President
of MES).
They were pleased by the cooperation between their
institutions.
On the first working day, the participants were
briefed about the need for establishment of
ecological network in the country.
Main
goal of this project is development of National
ecological network in RM (MAK – NEN) as an integral
part of Pan – European ecological network (PEEN).
This project will address the problem with the large
beasts (brown bear, wolf, and lynx). The brown bear
will receive special attention. Management plan for
wild corridors of the brown bear will be prepared.
This plan will provide better understanding of the
place and interconnection of the brown bear within
the ecological system, interconnection of the
habitats and the concept of ecological networks in
general.
The
agenda on the second day of the workshop is visit to
the Monospitovo wetlands. Overview of the protection
activities and development of the eco-tourism around
it.
