One of the main objectives in the Management Plan
(which is in the process of preparation) is to
relieve the pressure exerted over the ecosystems,
especially the pressure that is being exerted over
the forests. Is imperative to find alternative
income for further development of National Park
Galicica – said the Director of PINP Galicica, Zoran
Angeloski during the press conference organised
within the frame work of the three day mission of
IUCN/WCPA
in the Park.
The
Mission was realized over the period between
5th
and 7th October 2009, by initiative of
Public Institution National Park Galicica. This is
first ever case that high representatives of IUCN /
WCPA are visiting a National Park in Macedonia.
IUCN is
International Union for Conservation of Nature which
helps in finding pragmatic solutions for ever
increasing pressure over the environment and the
challenges of development. It supports scientific
research, manages projects throughout the world,
connecting Governments, NGO’s, United Nations
agencies, enterprises and local communities in the
development of policies for implementation of
projects, Laws and best practices. The Union with
headquarters in Switzerland is oldest and largest
network for environment with democratic membership
of over 1.000 Government and non-Government members
and about 11.000 scientists – volunteers in over 160
countries.
Expert mission of
IUCN, WCPA is being realized in the final stage of
the preparation of the Management Plan for National
Park Galicica. During the Mission, meetings with
institutions important for PINPG were conducted, and
on them there were discussions about the key issues
for the transformation of the Park, such as:
Management objectives for National Parks,
possibility for state financing of the PINPG,
re-proclamation of NPG, preparation of Spatial Plan
and Management Plan for NPG, integration of the Park
into the transboundary Prespa Park, etc. For
realization of the objectives of PINPG there is a
need of strong and permanent support from the
Government of RM and adjusted legal and
administrative framework that should be implemented
in correct manner.
“In the future,
National Park Galicica
will become part of the wider ambient which will
contribute in the overall regional development and
the adoption of the Management Plan represent
important step in this direction
