Galicica PINP has launched the second, and also the
final, stage of cleaning illegal landfills within
the Park boundaries.
Solid
waste management strategy has been implemented
successfully in all three of its segments:
public awareness raising, cleaning the illegal
landfills within the park and establishing a
sustainable solid waste management system
says the Park Manager Zoran Angeloski, and adds
this strategy will be implemented up until 2014 and
we are certain that we shall be successful in all of
the three segments.

The strategy is successfully implemented - Zoran
Angeloski, director of JUNPG
Allocated for the first stage were 5,000 EUR,
whereas for this second stage, the donor doubled
this amount
10,000
EUR.
The second stage
Āņīšąņą
starts from the village of Elsani and will develop
all the way to Sv. Naum, both along the regional
road to Albania and inside the Park boundaries.
Unlike
the first stage, during which the illegal landfills
had been cleaned only at sites with access for the
machinery, this time the cleaning will also take
place at sites inaccessible for the machinery, i.e.
manual cleaning will also be used
points out the Park Protection Sector's Manager
Naumce Noveski.

Residents in the park know how to preserve nature -
Noveski Naumce, Head of Department for Protection
According to his words, awareness related to this
issue has been raised to a higher level following
the first stage, but the required satisfactory
awareness level, expressed through people's culture
of behavior in nature, has still not been reached.
He also adds:
Problems
of this kind are not caused by the people who live
and reside in the Park. They know how to keep
natural wealth and nature itself. The problems and
waste disposal originate from people coming outside
the Park. However, with the help of the local
population from the Park, other competent
institutions, tighter control and the already
installed video surveillance equipment, we believe
we are going to fully eliminate such incidents.

This
activity of the Park staff is also part of the
"Support to Galicica NP" Project, funded by the
German KfW Bank and implemented in cooperation with
PE Komunalec of Ohrid.
