In the
park there are number of monuments of great artistic
and historical significance. They provide strong
motive for the visitors to come to the park.
Cultural heritage is an integral part of the expanse
of the park and reflects the time of its creation.
There are large number and great diversity of
cultural monuments in the park. They could be
organized in groups such as: archeological sites,
churches, monasteries, cave churches and monuments.
There
is a landmark in the park that has great
significance not only in the park and the region but
wider. The island of Golem Grad in the Lake Prespa
is strictly protected area in the park.
Belonging to the group of churches, monasteries,
cave churches, there are following monuments in the
park: Dating from 1361, built in vibrant style, with
a greater significance is the church “St Bogorodica
Zaumska”. Restoration work has been done to the
church and it is in good condition attracting
visitors. Another church is “St Bogorodica” in the
village of Velestovo, dating fom 15th
century.
Belonging to the group of cave churches, the
following churches are under protection: “St.
Bogorodica” in the village of Pestani from
XIV
century, the church “St Bogorodica” in the camping
site Gradiste, The church “St Stefan” dating from
the beginning of IX century and has picturesque wall
painting.
More cave churches not yet under protection: “St
Petar i Pavle” on the shore of Lake Prespa
not far from the Albanian border, church “St Petka”
in between villages Stenje and Konjsko on the rocks
on the shore of Lake Prespa, church “St Ilija” near
the village of Trpejca dating from
XIV
century.
