The
Park territory stretches over the two municipalities
of Ohrid and Resen. There are 18 villages within
the boundaries of the Park, 14 in the municipality
of Ohrid, and 4 in the municipality of Resen. Ohrid
section of the Park contains the following
villages:
Elsani,
Konjsko,
Trpejca,
Ljubanista,
Pestani,
Raca,
Velestovo,
Ramne,
Sipokno,
and the settlements:
Lagadin,
Dolno Konjsko,
Istok,
Elesec,
and
St. Stefan.
In the
Resen section of the Park are:
Otesevo,
Leskoec,
Stenje
and
Konjsko. Total
number of residents in the Park is 5400 (census
2001).
Basic
occupations of the people who live in the
mountainous region of the Park are farming and live
stock breeding, and the people from the villages
located on the shore of the lake, mainly live of
fishing and tourism (providing tourist
accommodations over the summer period).
Resulting from the bad social and economic
strategies from the past, there had been significant
migration from the remote mountainous villages and
settlements, towards larger settlements and villages
close to main road arteries leading to towns. There
a re several examples of this occurrence in the
Park, residents of Velestovo have been moving to
Raca, migration from Konjsko (Ohrid) moved to Dolno
Konjsko, Residents of Sipokno moved to St Stefan.
Leaving this migratory processes unchecked for many
years, resulted in the situation that Otesevo is
only a dot on the map with no permanent residents,
complete abandonment of the villages of Leskoec and
Konjsko (Resen).
From the total population living within the
boundaries of the Park, Macedonians are 5355, Serbs
17, Turks 9, Albanian 3, Vlahos 2, other
nationalities 11, and 3 did not declare themselves
(census 2001). There are 451 residents in the age
group 30-34 years, 430 residents between 15-19 years
of age, 406 residents in the age group 20-24 years,
405 residents in the age of 10-14 years, 397
residents in the age group 35-39 years, etc. Most
