There
is exceptionally rich and unique plants world in the
National Park. Up to date, there are over a
thousand registered plant species in GNP. 176 of
those are hard stem plants which is 58.4% of all
indigenous hard stem tress in Macedonia. There is
large number of relict species of plants of special
interest. They have found shelter on Galicia before
the onset of ice ages. The most significant are the
one that have survived the four ice ages, such as
Morina
persica, Stipa mayeri, Ramonda nathaliae
è
Phelipaea boissieri,
etc.
Furthermore, special interest deserves large number
of endemic types. On Galicica exist several endemic
types:
a)
Balkan,
most types found on Galicica belong to it
b)
South
Balkan,
large
number, special attention is given to:
Ajuga
piskoi, Erodium guicciardii, Oxytropis purpurea,
Astragalus baldaccii, Poa galicicae, Lilium
heldreichii, Arabis bryoides
and
many others
c) Local,
can be found on the slopes of Galicica only, up to
date there are 14 of them, hopefully with the
increased scientific explorations of the flora in
the National Park, their number shall grow. Local
endemic types are:
Centaurea
soskae, Crocus cvijici, Laserpitium ochridanum,
Astragalus mayeri, Helichrysum zivojinii, Nepeta
ernesti-mayeri, Alyssum galicicae, Thymus
ciliatopubescens, Thymus skopjansis, Geranium
cinereum, ssp. subcaulescens var. rupestris,
Echinops bannaticus ssp. Prespaensis, Centaurea
galicicae, Dianthus galicicae
and
Sempervivum galicicum.
No
lesser importance is given to number of rare plants
that are found on other places but their presence on
Galicica is rather unexpected. The example of
Celtis
glabra
is
quite unexpected being indigenous to mountain of
Kafkas which is several thousand kilometers away
from island of Golem grad in the Lake Prespa where
is also found.
